Like so many who live in and around Houston, Harry Westmoreland speaks with the experience of someone who has wrestled a livelihood from the ground. His vocabulary is littered with dry holes and rat holes, shanked bits and bentonite.
Westmoreland, 61, is a driller by trade. He started in oil, of course. But as cycles of boom and bust began to take a toll, he moved on to geologic survey wells, cathodic wells and, his eventual bread and butter, water wells. Along the way he developed a special drill bit that led him to found a company.
